ULU is named for a two sided "U" shaped knife, used in the circumpolar region. As a rite of passage into adulthood, young people make their own ULUs which serve as an essential tool and decorative form of self expression.

ULU defines hybrid boots by combining the relaxed style and lightweight materials of an aprés ski boot, the warmth and rugged construction of a pack boot, and the comfort and support of a running shoe.
